4 Tips to Avoid Podcast Burnout

Author: Dayana Preval

I’ve been a podcaster for a little over a year and I remember the joy I felt to venture out into a new creative space outside of writing. I had taught myself all there is to know about podcasting. I came up with a name, logo, learned how to edit audio, promote on social media, writing my scripts, and so on.

While I enjoy podcasting, I found myself burning out after a couple months. I felt a lot of pressure to produce content weekly. On top of that, while receiving feedback was great, I had let a lot of other voices get into my head. I needed to take a step back and figure out my vision for my podcast.

To my fellow podcasters who are reading this, I have four tips to share to help you get through this tough time as a creative.

Get some YOU time in

Podcasting is very time consuming because there are so many layers to create an episode. Step away from the content for a couple days to decompress and get your creative juices flowing.

Remember your Why

Your podcast exists because there is a need for your content. You felt so strongly about your WHY that you created this platform to share with others. It’s easy to allow social media and feedback to get the best of you. Well, I’m here to tell you to forget them. No one has your vision and your experiences. We need your content and your contribution to media!

Re-access your Podcast

Take a moment to think about what led you to this point of burnout. Are you running out of topics? Do you feel like handling your podcast without a team is too overwhelming? Are you organized? Analyze what you can do to make your podcast process flow easier to avoid future burnout.

Don’t be gone for too long

As the podcasting industry continues to grow, there’s new information coming out every day. Please don’t count yourself out for too long. Take the break that you need but get back in the game. The last thing you want to feel is outdated or left out because you took a break. Keep tabs on the latest information by subscribing to newsletters, following podcast pages on Instagram, and listening to podcasts.
