Podcasting Through A Pandemic

Author: Dayana Preval

COVID-19 put creatives to the test this year in terms of content. In the first couple of months of COVID-19, I felt like social media was a ghost town for coverage outside of the pandemic. As a podcaster, it was nerve-wracking and put me at a loss with how I wanted to move forward with my content. I didn’t want to be the person who completely ignored recent events happening in our country, but I also didn’t want to create content around COVID-19. I was stuck with how I should move forward because I didn’t want to be judged about what I covered. Here are four tips on how I continue to create a flow and create a semblance of normalcy for your podcast.

Stay True to Yourself

I know that sounds cliché, but it’s true. Your audience tunes into your podcast weekly because of your truth. They are invested in you and your content. Think about this way, we’re constantly going through changes in life anyway, so the pandemic is no different.

Be a Safe Space

Right now, everyone is trying to break free from the pandemic whether that’s emotionally or physically. If you’re tired of discussing the pandemic, I promise you that your audience is too. Use your podcast as a space for your audience to disconnect and become one with your content. For the most part, everyone is sitting at home, working remotely. This is the perfect time to create a bond with listeners. Remember people invest in you and what you mean to them. Now is the best time to establish that connection.

It’s Okay to Sit Back & Figure it Out

Don’t put out content just say you did it! Your audience can and will tell the difference. Please don’t feel obligated to come out with something because of social media and everyone is “pivoting.” Sometimes sitting still allows you to remember your why, which in return can bring engaging, authentic content.

Be Vulnerable

Now more than ever it’s important to keep it real with your audience. We’re all in this season of growth and error. Your audience will appreciate your transparency during this time.

I hope these tips help you to navigate through content during the pandemic. Take your time and do what’s best for your show. In the meantime, continue to stay engaged with the latest podcast updates in the industry.
